Silvia was born in Salento, a peaceful peninsula in southern Italy.
Despite that, before the full age she relocated to a metropolitan city in Central Italy where she studied at a renowned faculty of Construction Engineering. Since then, she learned that being abroad is a unique opportunity to expose herself to unprecedented stimulations. During those years, she spent several semesters as an exchange student at two reputable European Institutes. At young age, such compelling experiences have paved the path ahead and contributed to develop her strong technical competences.
Moving ahead in time, Silvia’s master’s thesis research in ‘Life Cycle Analysis applied to residential buildings’, in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana, opened the doors to the world of sustainability. She often emphasises that the design phase for a potentially “Good Project” represents the critical moment for making the right decisions, together with choosing the appropriate materials.
Afterwards, she decided to complement her working experience by joining fast-growing engineering firms in Austria.
Now that she moved back to Italy again, at OTEREA she is managing the national portfolio projects, mainly international environmental certifications, like BREEAM, LEED and WELL. While on the other, she still support her colleagues in the context of European projects.
As of now, over 80 buildings around the country have been certified or are undergoing certification process.
In this work position, Silvia feels extremely satisfied and rewarded, especially when guiding clients in the decision-making to improve the environmental impact of the “building box”, and even more importantly the well-being of its occupants.
Climate change is expected to have unpredictable consequences on our every-day lives which we need to fully grasp. Now more than ever before, we should act to counteract to the risk of irreparable damages. That is a great responsibility at large: Revolutionizing the way buildings are designed and conceived would definitely play a strategic role.
